Back to It

I’m really not a big fan of the Christmas hustle but, being as my family is, I grin and bear it. Big of me, huh? Nah, it is more expensive than the vacation I didn’t have last year and always a guess as to what will work for one versus another; presents, that is.

It used to be the busiest time of year when it comes to last minute home improvements for my business. Replacing or installing new glass, table tops, mirrors, shower doors. I didn’t get home until nine at night more times than I can count. Hung dog tired but I was young! My family was young and we were doing quite well.

Now, well, I am old, sold the business years ago and reinvested so I’m doing just fine. Still, I could easily forego the headache that I find the holiday season. Seems it is just over and then it comes roaring back before you can turn the page on your calendar to the New Year.

There’s an awful lot of New Years that I remember only the morning after back when my head was in a bottle. Sheesh, what a waste of time and health those years were. How I managed to come out on top is something I still can’t fathom. But I did and that’s what counts.

So, this is a catch-up post as busy does not describe what the past week has been. Now, it is quiet as a church mouse around here. My wife longs for the noise, kids, their kids and presents being opened and I am glad as hell it is done and gone. Ain’t getting old fun? Actually, yes it is because I don’t make the same mistakes I did as a young man. If you can’t learn then your life is wasted. Always learn, that’s what life is for.
